Tata Nexon EV Revealed, Becomes The First Electric Vehicle To Be Powered By The Ziptron!

Tata Motors has taken the veils off the Tata Nexon EV. Here is all you need to know about this new electric vehicle from the Indian marque…

We have been waiting for this to happen. I mean, we knew this coming. We had seen Tata Motors launch their latest electric vehicle platform, the Tata Ziptron, some time back and have been waiting for the first product from it ever since. Later news had revealed that the first product that the Ziptron tech would spawn would be the electric vehicle guise of India’s favourite SUV- Tata Nexon.

Tata Nexon EV Launch happens!

Here it is now, the Nexon EV… The electric SUV would come in three variants- XZ+ LUX, XZ+ (both in 2 tone) and XM (in single tone) and would feature state of the art EV technology. Like its petrol engine counterpart, the electric Nexon also boasts of the IMPACT DESIGN 2.0 philosophy. However, a bunch of subtle changes throughout the design makes the Tata Nexon electric stand out from the crowd.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors said, “After introducing our cutting-edge EV technology, Ziptron, we are thrilled to unveil the first EV featuring this technology – The Nexon EV. This is a high performance, connected vehicle that is uniquely suited to address the aspirations of Indian customers and break all barriers for EV adoption. We are confident that this development will mark an important milestone in India’s electrification journey, and further reinforce our commitment towards developing sustainable and responsible mobility solutions for India.”

It also gets a cluster of app-based connected features. The system promises up to 35 connected car functions including remote commands, vehicle tracking, driving behaviour analytics, navigation and remote diagnostics, all of which can be accessed through the Zconnect app.

Tata Nexon Specs

Coming to the electric Tata Nexon specifications, the car gets a 129PS permanent magnet AC motor coupled with a high capacity 30.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery. The setup is good enough to let out upto 245 Nm of torque, and make the Nexon EV sprint to 100kph in just 9.9 seconds. There exists absolutely no reason to worry about the safety and durability of the battery pack, as it is claimed to be the best-in-industry offering, that meets IP67 standards. The Tata Nexon EV battery is liquid-cooled to further suit the Indian conditions.

Handling of the car benefits from the clever placement of the battery pack underneath the vehicle body. This has lowered the centre of gravity by a fair bit in the EV. There are two drive modes on offer on the Nexon electric- DRIVE and SPORT. There are also stuffs like regenerative braking, Hill Ascent & Descent Assist etc on offer. Both the battery and the motor would also come with a warranty of 8 years or 1,60,000 kms (whichever is earlier).

Tata Nexon EV range:

The range is what most EV buyers are concerned about. However, there exists no chance of anxiety when it comes to the Nexon EV range. Tata motors have played it clever here and have so tuned the motor as to provide a real-world range of over 300 km! There is also the provision for fast charging that would replenish up to 80% of the battery in around 60 minutes when connected to a DC fast charging point.

Tata Nexon EV car Price:

Tata motors would only disclose the official prices for the Nexon electric post its launch early next year. However, we expect it to fall in the INR 15-17 lakh range. The Tata Nexon EV booking is now open on the official website and at select Tata Motors dealerships wherein the car can be pre-booked against payment of INR 21,000.
