Production-Spec Renault Kiger Revealed, Looks Too Much Of A Grown Up Kwid!

Upon its soon-to-happen market launch, Renault Kiger is expected to be priced aggressively

In a physical event, Renault India has taken the veils off its newest product, the Kiger. Renault Kiger is a compact SUV for the global markets, but designed and developed with the Indian market demands in mind. The SUV shares its underpinnings with the Renault Triber that is currently on sale here and would have the Nissan Magnite as its key market rival upon launch.

The concept car shown at the previous Auto Expo had turned many heads back then. The fact that the production guise shows no major deviation from the show car in terms of design adds to our joy. The Kiger has neatly drawn lines and clean muscles to appeal to the style-savvy Indian buyer. The Kiger has been built following the latest design direction of Groupe Renault. The overall design does have resemblances to the outgoing Renault Kwid and faint similarities to the Triber as well. The sculpted bonnet, pronounced shoulder lines and bold wheel arches render the car true SUV proportions. At 205mm, the Kiger does have SUV-spec ground clearance as well. The massive 405 liters of boot space sets new segment benchmarks.

While there is no word yet on the actual variant break-down, the higher variants will be feature packed and will have the likes of diamond-cut alloys, suspended air conditioning controls, 20.32 cm floating touchscreen with  Arkamys sound system, hands-free smart access card, and a 17.78cm configurable TFT instrumentation.

Space stands as the key highlight of the Kiger. The SUV offers a lot of cabin-room for its size. With a best-in-class couple distance of 710mm, 222mm of rear leg room, and a whopping 1431mm of elbow room, the Kiger is quite spaceous a B-SUV.

The Renault Kiger will have two engine and two transmission options on offer upon launch. The 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine will come mated either to a 5MT or a 5 AMT, while the second mill, a 3 cylinder turbo-petrol will have a 5 speed CVT in place of the AMT, while still retaining the 5MT.

Apart from the Magnite, Kiger would have to battle the likes of Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
