Harley Davidson Quits India, What Should The Existing Owners Do?

Harley Davidson has chosen to shut down its India sales. So here’s what the existing Harley owners should do …

We are a bit late to tell you this but Harley Davidson has chosen to bid adieu to the Indian motorcycle market. The manufacturer has shut down the sales and manufacturing operations in the country. In the process, the total workforce count has been reduced to 70, the rest of them have lost their jobs. The action comes in as part of the ‘Rewire’ strategy from the renowned American brand.

Harley Davidson has around 33 outlets across India. However, even with such a well set dealer network in place, HD has not been able to sell impressive numbers in recent times. In the previous fiscal, the manufacturer sold less than 2500 units in India. India is just one of the international markets for the bike maker where the sales charts have slumped in recent times.

With the company pulling the plug on the India sales and manufacturing, the existing Harley owners would apparently be worried about the maintenance of their bikes henceforth. Well, we have good news for them! Hero Motocorp has now partnered with Harley Davidson to take control of its dealer network and provide the necessary service support to the HOG members from the same. This should be of relief to the Harley owners for now, but things would not be too sweet once the contract terms of the dealerships expire.
